I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting DEAFestival on Sunday, September 16th in celebration of Deaf Awareness Month.  This much anticipated event will take place at Woodley Park in Van Nuys, California from Noon to 5:00pm.  As part of my efforts to increase awareness for Angelinos in regards to the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing community as well as to celebrate its many achievements, I am proud to sponsor this event along with the California Association of the Deaf, Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness, CSUN National Center on Deafness, Friends of the Family, Department of Cultural Affairs, Department on Disabilitiesand the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.  All mentioned have partnered to make this event possible to raise awareness, provide resources and provide social interaction for the deaf and hard of hearing community.  With this year’s theme of:  Deaf Economics Action for Freedom:  Making our Dream a Reality, there will be plenty of opportunities for the Deaf community to explore possibilities of starting a business.  The event will also be filled with fun for the whole family with a variety of information booths, workshops and activities on hand throughout the day.

Sincerely,

Tony Cardenas

Councilman, Sixth District
